Attraction & Retention of Employees
By Vern Schmuland, Economic Development Manager
One of the more talked about issues in businesses over the past year has been the attraction and retention of employees.
The attraction and retention of employees can have a major impact on the bottom line and the ability to meet the competition in the market place.
The economic model we went through prior to the current global economic retraction was unprecedented; capital expenditures passed all previous numbers, providing an atmosphere of extreme competition for employees. Employers were unable to retain or attract critical staff to meet the pressures on the business. With the current slowdown comes an opportunity for employers to evaluate their business strategy for their Human Resources.
The success of retention strategies is based on an environment where employees feel part of a company through partnership-based leadership, co-opportunities for employee participation and involvement. Employees like to feel part of a company, where they are wanted, respected and where they can contribute at their fullest.
The Economic Development and Business Development offices are available to assist local businesses in creating processes that will support sustainability in the business.
